These songs were recorded by Wen Xiangcheng during June of 2008. All these songs were recorded in the Sanchuan area of Minhe County (Haidong Region, Qinghai Province). The Sanchuan area includes GuantingTown, ZhongchuanTownship and parts of Gangou, Xing’er, and QianheTownships and is home to approximately 40,000 Monguor people. Wen Xiangcheng spent one month travelling throughout the region, and recorded fifty-eight songs, including wedding songs, lullabies, work songs, drinking songs, bridal laments, children’s songs, festival songs, and folk songs from singers between the ages of twenty-eight to seventy-three. Wen Xiangcheng is now working to archive these materials, and will then make CDs to return to the communities. Three samples are given below.
